We went there in February 2017 and when we checked today, Google indicates that it’s permanently closed. We weren’t able to verify if it’s true.

In general, their dishes were very oily and the ingredients weren’t that fresh.

Pictured above: Clams – Sweet & spicy thai sauce ($15.95)

Fish maw soup ($13.95) [We liked the overall taste but their fish maw was on the fishy side.]

– – – XO sauce duck tongue – flowering chives ($22.95)

IMG_20170227_133954_076
Steamed live fish ($30) [We really like steamed fish but this was overcooked.]
IMG_20170227_133814_551
Steamed surf clam – garlic and vermicelli ($22 for 4 pieces) [It tasted good but the clams were not fresh and tasted a little fishy. It was also on the oily side.]

– – – Fried garlic spareibs ($13.95) [We think they did not fry it long enough. This was not crispy and was dripping with oil.]

Row 34

Pictured above: Tuna crudo – black garlic, avocado ($15) [I saw a picture of this on yelp before going and I thought the white parts were fat. I love highly marbled tuna (e.g. blue fin toro) and is disappointed to find that this is actually extremely lean tuna. However, it is well seasoned with large grains of salt, avocado, oil, deep fried garlic and I would still recommend it!]

Tuna Tartare – sesame, cucumber ($15) [in terms of taste, I prefer their tuna crudo more, but this has so much more tuna for the same price.]

+++ Warm buttered lobster roll – slaw & chips ($27) [this is my favourite dish, and I’d come back just for it’s lobster roll!]

Pan roasted bluefish – eggplant, summer beans ($26)

Aldea

Overall taste: 9/10 | 2016 | 31 W 17th St, New York, NY 10011

This remains to be one of my favourite restaurants. Although it is only rated 1 michelin star, it is better than some of the 3 michelin starred restaurants in my opinion.
